World’s sexiest islands

But compiling our annual list of the World's Sexiest Islands is an infinitely more subtle task. What, exactly, makes an island--or any travel destination, for that matter--sexy?

For starters, you can forget the traditional yardsticks for quantifying travel. Easily accessible, affordable and well-signposted? Sure, apply those criteria if you want to see the sights in a new city (along with all the other tourists). But by no means are they sexy.

Nor is every island innately sexy. Think of Vieques, a tiny island off the coast of Puerto Rico, which the U.S. Navy used for 60 years as a bomb-testing point. While it has one of the best bioluminescent bays in the world, at the moment it lacks for luxury lodging (see: " Vivid Vieques"). The Cayman Islands, while great for spring break, are generally too built up and too loud to qualify.

World Cup planning getting down to nitty-gritty -some suites ...

The overlay planning for temporary stadia improvements for Cricket World Cup (CWC) 2007 and meetings on security, media management and accreditation were the focus of a summit recently in St Lucia.

International Cricket Council CWC 2007 Inc Venue Development Director, Donald Lockerbie said in a press release that the ICC CWC 2007 would have also introduced the Venue Graphics Plan to the Local Organising Committees (LOCs), which would focus on stadium signage, venue dressing and sponsor branding of stadia. Temporary improvements include temporary grandstands and tent villages.

More than 150 regional and international participants were expected at the summit and other related meetings in St Lucia.

Participants included Chief Executive Officers and other officials from the nine LOC, ICC CWC West Indies 2007 Inc Heads of Departments (HODs); and teams responsible for venue development, corporate communications, design, commercial, cricket operations, medical directorate, event management, volunteers and other members of staff from ICC CWC WI 2007 Inc.

Few Strong Storms Possible Sunday

The Storms Prediction Center has eastern Colorado and southeast Wyoming along and east of Interstate 25 outlooked for a slight risk of a few severe thunderstorms Sunday.

The main threat would be strong damaging winds and hail.

This time of year we look at surface dew point temperatures to see where the best fuel for thunderstorms to feed on is located.

Dew point temperatures are a measure of the amount of moisture in the air. The higher the dew point, the more humid the atmosphere.

From Denver east to Kansas dew point temperatures were in the mid-40s to mid 50s as of 9 a.m. and if those hold into the afternoon, there will be enough moisture for storms to generate once combined with daytime heating.

Saturday brought some severe stroms to extreme east-central Colorado and a few tornadoes in western Nebraska.

Summer school to teach kids Cayman heritage

CHILDREN aged five to eleven have been given a three-month opportunity to learn about marine life, historic shipwrecks and the Caymanian heritage as part of the Sir Turtle's Sea School.

The school will afford the students hands-on activities in arts and crafts projects, treasure hunts and interactive storytelling during their summer holidays at the Boatswain's Beach in Grand Cayman.

Organisers of the programme have promised the youngsters and their accompanying parents "the perfect balance of learning and entertainment" from 1 June to 4 September 2006.

While at the summer school, the children will be greeted by Cayman's mascot, Sir Turtle, and his swashbuckling friends at one of the Cayman Islands' newest and most exciting attractions.

They will learn about the fascinating legends and facts surrounding the shipwrecks of the Islands in the free programme put on by the Department of Tourism (DOT).

Tropical Storm Alberto first named storm of 2006

Tropical Storm Alberto, the first named storm of the 2006 hurricane season, is churning Gulf waters with 45 mph winds with higher gusts and drenching rains.

Alberto is located about 400 miles west of Key West, Fla., and is moving toward the northwest near 9 mph and a turn toward the north and northeast is expected during the next 24 hours, the National Weather Service reported at 10 a.m. Sunday. Tropical storm force winds stretch outward up to 175 miles east of the center. Some slight strengthening is possible during the next 24 hours.

Most forecast models show the system making landfall over northern Florida late Monday or Tuesday and continuing across Florida and up parallel to the East Coast of the U.S.

It will be relatively weak in terms of wind, but that doesnt mean its going to be weak in terms of rainfall, senior hurricane specialist Stacy Stewart told the Associated Press on Saturday.
